How Portworx Works
Portworx is an enterprise-grade, Kubernetes-native data platform developed by Pure Storage. It unifies data management for containers and virtual machines across every infrastructure — cloud, hybrid cloud, on-premises, and edge — automating storage operations while delivering built-in resilience and security. With a 100% software-based approach, the platform can run on existing disks or on hardware such as Pure Storage FlashArray and FlashBlade, making it usable wherever Kubernetes runs.
Portworx aggregates the disk capacity of every node into a shared pool, managing storage centrally and dynamically; its rule-based engine automatically grows and shrinks volumes as demand changes. Stork (Storage Orchestrator Runtime for Kubernetes) schedules pods on the nodes where their data replicas reside to improve performance, while also supporting snapshots and migrations. With both synchronous and asynchronous replication options, Portworx enables zero RPO disaster recovery and failover in seconds.
