Frequently Asked Questions

Got something on your mind? You will most likely find the answer in the six categories below. If you can’t, our support team is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Getting Started

portvMind Cloud is the public cloud platform that vMind Bilgi Teknolojileri A.Ş. launched in 2019. It runs on an OpenStack-based open-source architecture, is hosted in Tier III+ data centers in Istanbul and Ankara and is operated by vMind’s own engineers.

You sign up from the console and your e-mail is verified. On your first login, phone and card verification run automatically; when the verifications are complete, your $45 of free usage is applied. If you want to go step by step, the portvMind Welcome Kit walks you through every step in order, from setting up your first server to building a production-ready architecture.

After you complete the configuration in the console, your server is usually up and running within a few minutes. You don’t wait for hardware procurement or an installation process.

Yes. The guides are prepared so that no prior cloud knowledge is required. Wherever you get stuck you can reach the 24/7 Turkish-speaking support line; you also get support during the free usage period.

Ten services: Compute, GPU / AI Compute, Block Storage, Object Storage, Backup, Network Data Transfer, Floating IP, Load Balancer, Router and Kubernetes. All of them are managed in the same console and appear on the same invoice.

Pricing and Cost

We work on a pay-as-you-go model: your resources are metered from the moment they are created until they are deleted. For Compute, storage, network and platform services, metering is per minute; for GPU / AI Compute it is hourly, because the card is reserved solely for you for as long as it is allocated. You don’t have to buy a package or make a commitment.

When you sign up, your e-mail is verified; on your first login, phone and card verification complete automatically. When the verifications are done, the $45 entitlement is defined by the system and your account is opened for use — no manual approval, prepayment or sales call is needed. The entitlement applies across all services. When it runs out, your running resources are not shut down; your account returns to the standard pay-as-you-go model. Details →

The calculator uses the current unit prices of the resources you select; your invoice is based on your actual consumption during the period. Any difference comes only from changes in usage — no hidden items or unexpected extra charges are added.

When you choose a committed usage plan, a discount of up to 40%, depending on your commitment term, is reflected directly on your invoice; no manual step is needed. Reserved resources are managed in the same console as pay-as-you-go resources.

You don’t have to find out at the end of the month. In the console you define a monthly or period-specific budget; you get alerts when your spending reaches the 50%, 80% and 100% thresholds. When you turn on overrun forecasting, you learn even earlier if you will exceed the budget by the end of the period at your current consumption rate.

No, it sends an alert. We don’t think it is right to shut down a running production system without warning. After you receive the notification, you decide which resource to scale down or shut down.

To the e-mail addresses you specify. With webhook support you can also send notifications in standard JSON format to Slack, Microsoft Teams or your own application.

Transfer between your resources in the same region is not charged. There is no cost when your application server talks to your database or your backup job writes to object storage. Traffic leaving the region is metered by volume and can be seen in advance in the calculator.

Metering stops for Compute resources. The disk space attached to the server continues to be metered because your data is preserved.

The amounts shown in the calculator and on the pages exclude VAT.

Five methods work: sizing resources to your actual usage, shutting down test environments after hours, moving to a reserved commitment for predictable workloads, keeping infrequently accessed data on Object Storage instead of Block Storage and placing components that talk to each other often in the same region.

Yes, but for verification, not to charge you. On your first login, card verification runs automatically; 1 TL (or 1 USD) is charged to the card and the same amount is refunded. This is not a usage fee, and how soon the refund shows on your statement depends on your bank. No prepayment or commitment is taken. Details →

No. When the entitlement runs out, your running resources are not shut down; your account returns to the standard per-minute pay-as-you-go model. To keep track of your spending, it is recommended to define a budget threshold in the console. Details →

For accounts newly opened in the portvMind Cloud console. In the case of repeated account creation or misuse, the defined entitlement may be cancelled. The entitlement is not a credit or a fee definition; it cannot be transferred or refunded. Details →

Security and Data Sovereignty

Yes. All your primary and secondary copies are hosted in Tier III+ facilities in Istanbul and Ankara; no log record or backup file crosses the country’s borders without your explicit approval. This is not a policy statement but a direct result of how the infrastructure is physically built.

Our operational processes are certified under ISO 27001 (information security management) and ISO 22301 (business continuity management) and are kept current with regular audits. Our data centers meet the Tier III+ standard.

We were positioned as a Major Player in the IDC MarketScape “Türkiye Public Cloud Infrastructure as a Service 2025 Vendor Assessment” report. We were also named leader in the Cloud category among local service providers six times in the Bilişim 500 survey and hold the TEKNOGİRİŞİM badge of the Ministry of Industry and Technology.

Yes. Encryption is applied both in transit and at rest on disk.

Hosting your data in Turkey removes the obligations related to transferring data abroad. You remain the data controller; portvMind is the data processor. The limits of responsibility are defined in the SLA agreement.

Your resources run in isolated VXLAN-based virtual networks. You separate your tiers with Router and control access by port and protocol with security groups. Protective measures are applied at the network layer; if you have scenario-specific requirements, you can talk to our team.

With role-based access management you define user permissions and follow transaction logs from the console. You can use Object Storage to retain your audit records long term and manage the retention period automatically with lifecycle rules.

Two regions: Istanbul (TR-IST-01) and Ankara (TR-ANK-01). By using the two together you can build a redundant architecture and define a disaster recovery scenario against a region-level outage.

Migration

We analyze your existing virtual machines, prepare the migration plan together with you and position your workloads on portvMind. For large-scale and critical migrations, our engineering team is involved from planning to go-live; the cutover moment is set with your approval.

The migration plan is designed to minimize downtime: parallel running and staged cutover methods are used. Downtime varies with your workload’s architecture and is determined together during planning.

No. Migration consulting is free of charge and requires no purchase commitment. We review your current environment and prepare your roadmap.

Yes. Thanks to open OpenStack-based standards, migration support is offered for workloads coming from different sources; the scope is clarified after a discussion.

The platform is built on open source and uses standard formats. You can take your images, data and configurations out. Your decision to stay comes from preference, not technical necessity.

Yes. You can keep some systems in your own environment and run the others on portvMind. For the connection scenario between the two environments, you can talk to our team.

Technical

Common Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, Rocky Linux and Debian, and Windows Server. You can also upload your own image and create a server from it.

Yes. Services can be managed through OpenStack-compatible APIs; with tools such as Terraform you can define your infrastructure as code and keep it under version control. Details are in the documentation.

Yes. All services connect freely to each other within the same account and the same virtual network. This communication within the same region is not charged.

Yes. You can move Compute resources to a larger type and expand your Block Storage disks without disruption. Disks can be expanded but not shrunk.

With the Backup service you define a scheduled backup policy: which disks, how often and for how long they are kept. Thanks to bootable backups you can create a new server directly from a backup. Old backups are cleaned up automatically according to the retention rule you define.

A snapshot is a quick, manually taken copy of a disk’s current state; you take one before releasing a version and roll back if something goes wrong. A backup runs on a schedule, builds a timeline of the past and automatically cleans up old copies. The two are used together.

NVIDIA H100 and H200. You can see the current configuration options in the calculator and the documentation. GPU resources are metered hourly.

No. Installing the control plane, its redundancy, version upgrades and certificate management are our responsibility. You define your worker node pools and deploy your application. You have full access to the cluster through kubectl and the API.

In most cases, yes. Because Object Storage offers an S3-compatible API, changing the endpoint address and credentials is usually enough.

In-region latency is below 2 ms. Access time to your end users in Turkey is noticeably lower than with infrastructure serving from regions abroad.

Support

Through the phone line open 24/7 (0850 333 58 59), by opening a request in the support section of the portvMind Console or on the community forum (discuss.portvmind.com). In emergencies that stop production, the phone is the fastest channel; for issues that need to be on record, use the support portal.

Yes. 24/7 Turkish-language support is provided on all channels and you reach the engineering team that runs the infrastructure — there is no call-center layer or script-reading operator.

For critical-level requests that stop production, our target is to give a first response within one hour. Severity definitions and committed times are in the SLA agreement.

No. 24/7 Turkish-language technical support is included in the service; you don’t need to buy a separate support package.

Yes. You have access to the same support channels during the first $45 free usage period as well.
