Cloud Infrastructure for the Finance Sector

In the finance sector, choosing a cloud is a compliance decision before it is a performance decision. No architecture passes internal audit without clear answers to where the data is kept, who it is open to and how this is documented.

portvMind is an infrastructure located in Turkey in all of its components. Your primary copy, backups and log records stay in the Istanbul and Ankara data centers; the physical location of the data can be documented in audit processes. On top of that comes the low-latency storage and scalable compute power that transaction-heavy financial applications need.

Industry Challenges and portvMind Solutions

Regulatory Compliance

The regulatory framework sets clear expectations on where financial data is hosted and processed and on audit trails. Data processed abroad falls outside the scope of evaluation in many scenarios.

On portvMind: The entire infrastructure runs in the Istanbul and Ankara data centers. The hosting location, log keeping and access-record infrastructure are designed with these expectations in mind.

Data Sovereignty

Not just the primary copy of financial data but its backups and log records must stay within the country’s borders. The point most often overlooked in practice is where backups sit.

On portvMind: No data, backups included, is transferred abroad without your explicit consent. With the Backup service you define your retention policy and document that backups also stay in the same regions.

High Transaction Volume

Payment flows, credit processes and dealer networks generate high-volume transactions per second. Under this load the bottleneck is most often not the processor but the disk.

On portvMind: Full-flash Block Storage and a low-latency in-region network prevent disk-induced slowdowns in transaction databases. On the Compute side you scale capacity to your load profile.

Audit Traceability

In internal and external audits, it is expected that who accessed which resource and when is on record.

On portvMind: With role-based access management and transaction logs that can be followed from the console, access history can be tracked. You can use Object Storage to retain your audit records long term.

Cost of Downtime

In financial services, downtime is not just lost revenue; it is a reputational and sanction risk.

On portvMind: You build a redundant architecture behind a Load Balancer and define your disaster recovery scenario between the Istanbul and Ankara regions. With bootable backups you rehearse your recovery plan without affecting production.

Recommended Service Combination

Service Role
Compute Scalable server power for high transaction volume
Block Storage Low-latency full-flash storage for transaction databases
Load Balancer Redundant, uninterrupted access at payment endpoints
Router Layered network segmentation and controlled access
Backup Scheduled backup and retention policy
Object Storage Audit records and long-term archive
Kubernetes Managed cluster for applications running on a microservice architecture

This combination is a starting point; we adapt it together to your current architecture.

Typical Architecture

A typical setup for a financial application has three tiers. With Router you separate the web, application and data tiers into separate virtual network segments; the database tier stays closed to the internet and only the application tier can reach it. Application servers run redundantly behind a Load Balancer, and unhealthy nodes are taken out automatically.

The transaction database sits on Block Storage. The backup policy is tied to a schedule with the Backup service; the retention period is defined according to your regulatory requirements. Audit and log records are written to Object Storage and the retention period is managed automatically with lifecycle rules.

For continuity, you define a recovery environment waiting in the second region. Thanks to bootable backups you bring this environment up regularly and verify that it really works — you learn that your recovery plan works in a drill, not during a disaster.

Customer Story from the Industry

Smartera

The SmartyFIN and Smarty360 platforms handle high transaction volume on portvMind’s low-latency, ISO 27001- and KVKK-compliant infrastructure. Credit and dealer processes run without interruption; data stays within the country.

Yes. You can keep some critical systems in your own data center and run the others on portvMind. For the connection scenario between the two environments, you can talk to our team.

You define a redundant structure between the Istanbul and Ankara regions. With the bootable backups of the Backup service you can bring up the recovery environment and test it without affecting production.
