portvMind Welcome Kit

If you are moving to the cloud for the first time or are new to portvMind, knowing where to start saves time. On this page every step sits in order, from opening your first account to building a production-ready architecture.

All guides are step by step. None of them requires prior cloud experience.

The First 30 Minutes

When you complete these three steps, you have a running server.

Open your account and enter the console

On sign-up, e-mail verification is completed, and on first login phone and card verification are completed automatically; the 1 TL charged for card verification is refunded. Then your $45 of free usage is applied. The section also introduces the console interface, the project structure and the billing screen.

Time: about 5 minutes Coming soon

Set up your first server

Choosing the operating system, resource size, network and security group definition. Your server is up and running within a few minutes.

Time: about 5 minutes Coming soon

Connect to your server

Creating an SSH key, connecting to a Linux server over SSH, accessing a Windows server over RDP.

Time: about 10 minutes Coming soon

Getting Ready for Production

Once you have tested and are ready to move your real workload, these are the next steps.

Set up your network

Creating a virtual network and subnet, router configuration, security group rules, assigning a Floating IP. Here you decide which tier is open to the internet.

Coming soon

Add a disk

Attaching a Block Storage disk to your server, creating a file system, expanding the disk and taking snapshots.

Coming soon

Start using object storage

Creating a bucket, connecting with an S3-compatible client, access permissions and signed links. How to use your existing S3 tool unchanged.

Coming soon

Set up your backup policy

Defining a scheduled backup, setting the retention period and creating a server from a bootable backup. This is the step to take before going to production.

Coming soon

Add a load balancer

Defining a server pool, health check settings, uploading an SSL certificate and L7 routing rules.

Advanced Steps

Set up your Kubernetes cluster

Creating a cluster, defining a node pool, kubectl access, deploying your first application and attaching a persistent volume.

Coming soon

Start a GPU resource

Opening a GPU resource, accessing your dataset and running your training job. Defining a GPU node pool on Kubernetes.

Coming soon

Manage your infrastructure as code

Creating API credentials, configuring the Terraform provider and example definitions. Turning the setup you built by hand into code.

Keep Your Cost Under Control from the Start

The mistake beginners make most often is forgetting to turn resources off. From day one, do these three: How the first $45 of free usage works

Work out your cost in the calculator

Build your configuration and see your monthly cost before making any commitment.

Define your budget

Set a monthly budget in the console; get alerts when your spending reaches the thresholds. With overrun forecasting, learn in advance if you will exceed the budget by the end of the period.

Shut down resources you don’t use

Shutting down test environments after hours turns directly into savings, because metering is based on the time a resource is running.

If You’re Migrating from an Existing Environment

If you are not starting from scratch but moving an existing system, the order is as follows:

  1. Take an inventory — which servers, at which resource sizes, with which dependencies
  2. Define the target architecture — which workload goes to which service
  3. Try it in a test environment — move one workload and run it in real conditions
  4. Plan the cutover window — you decide the cutover moment
  5. Prepare your rollback plan — know in advance how to go back if something goes wrong

You don’t have to run this process alone. Migration consulting is free of charge; we review your current environment together and prepare your roadmap.

First-Week Checklist

Don’t skip the eighth item. Finding out that a backup is restorable for the first time during a real problem is the most expensive mistake in backup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. The guides are written so that no prior knowledge is required. When you complete the first three steps you have a running server.

The first $45 of usage is free. No prepayment or commitment is taken; the 1 TL charged for card verification is refunded. That amount is more than enough to set up a test environment and try it in real conditions.

After you complete the configuration in the console, your server is usually up and running within a few minutes.

According to your application’s requirements. Common Linux distributions and Windows Server options are offered; if you are unsure, you can ask our support team.

You can delete the resources and recreate them; metering is based only on the time a resource is running. To guard against the risk of data loss, it is recommended to set up your backup policy early.

You can reach the 24/7 Turkish-language support line or ask on the community forum. You also get support during the free usage period.
